Sondheim classic marks Boston Theatre Works' first full-scale musical production and kicks off the Tenth Anniversary Season.

[BOSTON, MA] Boston Theatre Works kicks of its 10th Anniversary Season with Steven Sondheim’s classic musical comedy, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum at the BCA Plaza Theatre on Thursday, September 20th. Directed by Erick Devine and featuring Eliot Norton Award-winner Richard McElvain, this totally re-imagined production of the sexy, bawdy classic has garnered over a dozen Tony Awards on Broadway and runs through October 20th.

It’s just another day in ancient Rome and all Pseudolus wants to do is cheat at dice and win enough cash to buy his freedom. When his lovesick master declares his affection for the virgin next door, Pseudolus sees his big chance – get the girl for his master and win his own freedom! This slapstick musical send-up of classical comedia del arte is filled with “old situations, new complications… and a happy ending of course!” New York audiences have seen this show remounted in recent years, but never has such an innovative production of it played before Boston audiences.

Tickets range from $22 for students to $42 for adults and may be purchased at www.BostonTheatreWorks.com, or by calling Boston Theatre Scene 617.933.8600. Tickets are also available in person at the BU Theatre Box Office, 264 Huntington Avenue and the Calderwood Pavilion Box Office, 571 Tremont Street. During performances the box office will remain open 30 minutes after last curtain. Approximate running time is 2 hours fifteen minutes with one intermission.
